Imperial War Museum North

About Us

Our unique collections made up of the everyday and the exceptional; reveal the stories of people, places, ideas and events shaped by conflict.

Mirroring this idea of the impact of conflict, IWM North was the first building in the UK designed by Daniel Libeskind and its shape is based on the concept of a world shattered by conflict.

As well as our permanent displays, we have a dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions, events and educational activities to help our visitors to get close to the lives of those affected by conflict and to develop a deeper understanding of its effect on the world.

Volunteering at IWM North

Volunteers play a vital role at IWM North. We currently have over 80 wonderful
volunteers who deliver a variety of roles within our galleries.

  • “I’ve made so many new friends since I started volunteering, I’ve also feel much more confident now, before I was really shy!”
